iOS 14 Problems with Windows

The latest iOS 14 has been available for download for couple hours. Even though the public rushed to issue the update, don't go hurry if you use your iPhone with a Windows PC, or if you rely on Exchange Active Sync for your email inbox. Here are few things you need to be aware before updating to iOS 14.

Check If Your Apps Work for iOS 14

Note 1: 32-bit Windows Apps
Won't Open in iOS 14

32-bit–only apps are no longer supported in iOS 14 (see 32-bit apps won't be supported in iOS 14), and that includes some old Microsoft iOS apps. The Redmond giant will also have to update all of its iOS apps with iOS 14 support over the coming weeks, and it already started last week with Microsoft To-Do.

Note 2: New Image Format in iOS 14
Cannot Open in Windows 10

New Apple devices (iPhone 8, iPhone X and iPhone 7/7 Plus) running iOS 14 use the new HEIC image format by default, which is not natively supported on Windows 10 or OneDrive. If this bothers you, you can turn off the new picture format on your iPhone by going to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose "Most Compatible" instead of "High Efficiency."

Note 3: Exchange ActiveSync
not Working on iOS 14 Properly

Many users complaining they cannot connect to Exchange ActiveSync on iOS 14 and all syncing items fail with an "Account error" - i.e. Calendar, Contacts, Mail, Notes, Reminders. "On a technical level, this happens because iOS 14 is improperly negotiating a HTTP/2 TLS connection and the connection fails," explained Michael B. Smith in his blog post. You can find a possible solution in this support article.
