The G Suite team is making new updates to the look of Google Drive on the web to match the recent redesigning on Gmail. There’s no change in functionality, but the interface has been completely revamped, and there’s a range of visual tweaks to align with Google’s latest Material Design principles.
Here are Google’s descriptions of the changes:
1. The logo in the top left has been changed to the Google Drive logo. If you’ve added a custom company logo, it is now in the top right.
2. The Settings icon has been moved in line with the search bar. And the Help Center icon has been moved in line with the search bar.
3. The page background is now white, not gray. The font used for headers has been changed. The “New” button has been updated.
Either way, you’ll have to get used to it, as the lighter, bubblier Material Design will permeate all of Google’s apps sooner or later. The update is still rolling out, so don’t be surprised if it takes a while to hit you.
